Description
Alciclav-DS 457mg Oral Suspension for Children: Overview
Alciclav-DS 457mg Oral Suspension is an antibiotic designed to treat various bacterial infections in children, including those of the ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, urinary tract, and teeth. It is particularly effective against resistant bacteria, making it useful for treating multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis.
Key Ingredients (Salt Composition)
- Amoxycillin (400mg)
- Clavulanic Acid (57mg)
How It Works
Alciclav-DS combines Amoxycillin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing the formation of their cell walls, and Clavulanic Acid, which blocks the beta-lactamase enzyme produced by some bacteria. This enzyme normally inactivates antibiotics like amoxycillin. By inhibiting this enzyme, clavulanic acid enhances the effectiveness of amoxycillin, especially against resistant strains of bacteria.
Benefits for Your Child
- Effective for Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB): MDR-TB occurs when the bacteria causing tuberculosis become resistant to common antibiotics. The combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid helps treat these resistant strains by blocking the beta-lactamase enzyme and effectively fighting the infection.
- Broad Range of Bacterial Infections: Alciclav-DS treats ear, throat, chest, skin, urinary tract, and other bacterial infections, helping your child recover and feel better.
How to Use
- Administer with or without food: It’s better to give it with food to improve absorption and reduce the risk of stomach upset.
- Dosage: The dosage depends on your child’s age, weight, and the severity of the infection. Typically, the medicine is taken 2-3 times a day, as prescribed by the doctor. Always follow the prescribed schedule.
- Measurement: Use the provided measuring cup for accurate dosing. Shake well before use.
Side Effects
Most children tolerate Alciclav-DS Oral Suspension well, but some may experience mild side effects, including:
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Allergic reactions (rash, swelling)
- Mucocutaneous candidiasis (fungal infections in the mouth or skin)
If these side effects persist or become bothersome, consult your doctor for advice.
Important Precautions
- Consult the doctor if your child has a history of allergies, heart problems, blood disorders, lung issues, gastrointestinal problems, or any other health conditions.
- Complete the full course: Even if your child feels better before finishing the treatment, complete the full course to ensure the infection is entirely treated and does not return.
- Monitor for allergic reactions: If your child experiences any signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, or throat, seek immediate medical attention.
