Description
Acuclav DS Syrup is an antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including those affecting the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is particularly effective against bacteria that have developed resistance to other treatments and is also used in the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).
Salt Composition
Amoxycillin 400mg/5ml + Clavulanic Acid 57mg/5ml
How to Use
Acuclav DS Syrup can be given to your child with or without food, although it is preferable to give it with food to enhance absorption and reduce the likelihood of stomach upset. The doctor will prescribe the dosage based on the type and severity of the infection, as well as the child’s age and body weight. The syrup should be administered in the prescribed dose and frequency, and if your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, repeat the dose. Do not give a double dose if the next scheduled dose is approaching.
Uses/Benefits
Acuclav DS Syrup is used in the treatment of resistant tuberculosis, particularly in multidrug-resistant TB, where the bacteria produce an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that makes traditional antibiotics ineffective. The combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid works to combat these resistant bacteria. The syrup is also effective in treating various bacterial infections in children.
Side Effects
Most side effects of Acuclav DS Syrup are mild and temporary, often subsiding as the child’s body adjusts to the medication. However, common side effects include abdominal pain, allergy, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and mucocutaneous candidiasis (fungal infections). If these symptoms persist or become bothersome, consult your child’s doctor.
Restrictions
- Kidney: Use with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustments may be required.
- Liver: Use with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before administering the syrup to a child with severe liver conditions.
